National Board of Review Awards 2009 |
The first precursor results of the season have arrived and they are courtesy of the National Board of Review (NBR) but will their results be matched next February when the Academy gives out theirs. The NBR have recently been better at predicting the Best Adapted Screenplay and the Best Documentary categories so either Slumdog Millionaire or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button are real contenders for the screenplay. The NBR is actually the best of all the 25 precursors in the study at predicting the Best Documentary so Man on Wire now goes into the favourites spot already for the Best Doc. The NBR have recently been poor at predicting Best Actress, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress so although winners here we will get better indicators as we go along. The categories not so far mentioned, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Animated Feature Film, have winners where the NBR have been ok at predicting the Oscars and so these should not be discarded but again better indicators will be revealed as time goes by. |
